SPEED UP 2000

SPEED UP 2000, short for Special Program for Enrichment, Excellence and Development of Incoming University of the Philippines Freshmen, is an orientation seminar for UP female freshmen students.  Studiositas Honor Society, established to provide for the academic needs of its members as well as to the general UP student body, has conceptualized the idea of equipping freshman students with the necessary skills and attitudes in order that they may be able to make the most of university life.  Intensive workshops and informative talks about time management, how to take exams, effective study habits, and campus fashion are just some of the activities lined up for SPEED UP participants.

SPEED UP 2000 is a perfect opportunity to show our support for our   Iskolar ng Bayan.  By giving them a firm ground of principles, values, and academic ethics, we will also be molding honest, competent, and God-fearing leaders of our society.

SPEED UP 2000 was recently held in Lunday Study Center last June 21 and 28.  The talks of the seminar were coping with university life, time management, study habits, notetaking, how to take exams, and campus fashion.

Coping with University Life was tackled by Karen Hipol, a veteran dormer of Ilang-Ilang Residence Hall in the University of the Philippines Diliman and a graduate of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology.  Ms. Hipol discussed on how to deal with home sickness and the various problems and situations associated with living in a dorm and starting college life especially in UP.

Time Management was handled by two different people, Monalee Teves (June 21) and Merlissa Suemith (June 28). The time management talk included techniques on preparing schedules and knowing one's personality in order to give more order in one's activities among others.

Study Habits included not only lectures on studying tips but also techniques on notetaking and how to take on exams.  Some of the tips were studying regularly and making summaries at the end of each discussion not to mention learning what works for you.  The talks were given by Joy Pinaroc (Summa Cum Laude Standing,5th Yr BSBAA) and Aimee Keh (Magna Cum Laude, BSBAA).

The last talk was very informative and interesting as well.  A talk on Campus Fashion was given by Ginny Villegas, a member of FLAIR.  The talk discussed what works best for the type of person one is (from body type to seasons).  the participants of SPEEDUP found the talk most interesting indeed as they tried on some clothing to know what season they are (what about you...are you a winter or an autumn?)  .

Definitely, next year's SPEED UP will be some thing worth waiting for!
